Alice Dunn
My name is Alice Dunn. I have been interested in art since I was about 11 years old. I have painted and drawn with many different mediums. Once I was married and had my 2 children I put the art aside, due to no time to pursue it.
In 1992 I decided to try to get back into the art field. I found a Tole Painting class, and signed up. Tole Painting has since evolved into Decorative Painting. During this period of time, I took numerous seminars with national Teachers in this field, to learn different techniques of Decorative Painting.
About 1 year ago, I took a seminar with a new type of paint, called Genesis Heat Set Oils. This paint has no odor, and is non toxic. Even the thinner that is used is safe, with low odor. Not only that, but it will not dry until it is heated. So you don't have to clean your brushes, and you can go back and rework the painting until you heat it. Now to dry the paint, you use a heat gun, which looks like a hair dryer, but heats a lot hotter, or you can place the painting in your oven for a few minutes to dry it. Once it has cooled, you can continue to paint on it, adding layers of colors. If you paint something and you are not satisfied with it ,and you haven't heated it yet, you can remove the mistake with poster tack (used to hang posters on walls). It removes it like an eraser.
I am hooked on this paint. You only need to have about 10 -12 colors, and you mix all the other colors you could possibly need. I set up a palette with the paints, and so far I have painted 6 paintings using the same paints. You actually use very little paint at any one time.
This paint works the best on canvas or masonite boards. It is not recommended for any wood that has been glued up, or any that has sap in it. Due to the fact that you do actually heat it and that will cause the glues to fail or the sap to come to the surface, which will ruin the picture.
I am constantly learning new techniques with this medium, and having a great time while doing it.
I now take my camera with me everywhere I go, and take photos of things to paint. So I am never without a great subject to put to canvas.
